ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, Tenn. – Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers, this year’s National Engineers Week runs Feb. 16-22.

As part of Engineers Week, or EWeek, many AEDC engineers and other volunteers from Arnold Air Force Base assist with local science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities during EWeek, and throughout the entire month of February.

The activities will kick-off with middle school students participating in a MathCounts® competition Feb. 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Tennessee Space Institute.

On Feb. 18, the Student Design Competition will be at the Hands-On Science Center in Tullahoma from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For this competition, high school students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades, are tasked with an impromptu design challenge and then judged on their creativity and skills to solve the problem they’re given.

This year’s Engineer for a Day event will take place Feb. 19 at Arnold Air Force Base from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Engineer for a Day provides students with a chance to tour the facilities at Arnold and spend one-on-one time with an engineer or someone in their career field of interest.

To wrap up the week, the Engineers Week Banquet will be Feb. 20 at the UTSI Dining Hall from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Laura Bannon, meteorologist with Channel 4 WSMV in Nashville. Bannon is a native of Chicago. She attended the University of Missouri and Mississippi State University. Prior to Channel 4, she worked for weather teams in Jefferson City, Missouri; Jackson, Tennessee; Wichita, Kansas; and Dallas, Texas.
