Homemade Halloween Costumes are a great alternative to traditional store bought. It just brings such creativity to the table! If you make your own costume, there is a good chance no one will show up to the party dressed like you!

This year youth in grades 4-12 have the opportunity to enter their homemade costumes in a contest. Homemade costumes will be judged on originality & creativity, execution and story. Awards (skeleton trophies) will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category (grades 4 &5, grades 6-8, and grades 9-12), and will be showcased on the UT-TSU Extension Facebook page.

To enter, email at least one image of the costume being modeled to Michelle Matthews at jmatthe1@utk.edu. Include in the email the contestant’s name, grade, school, teachers name (or indicate if home schooled), and story. The story should include what your costume is, how you came up with the idea, what was the hardest part of creating the costume, and what you might do different if you were to repeat the costume. The deadline to submit your entries is November 2, and winners will be announced on Facebook by November 6.

Contestants are allowed to have assistance in constructing their costume, but most of the work should be done by the contestant.
