As everyone knows, the Coffee County Fair is just a couple of weeks away. We all look forward to the tradition of the pageants, the shows, the rides, the food, and, of course, the funnel cakes! Each year the 4-H program partners with the Manchester Rotary Club to make and sell funnel cakes at the Coffee County Fair.

This year will be different. We, as a 4-H staff, have carefully evaluated whether it is safe to open the Funnel Cake booth or not. Believe me, we weighed the pros and cons. The biggest pro was the community. We know so many people come to the fair just for a funnel cake! We hear this all the time. The biggest con is, in summary, the unknown. Will it be profitable if the fair attendance is low? Will one of our booth workers become sick with this horrible virus? Will our workers unknowingly spread the virus to our customers? Those are the unknowns. Those are the cons.

After weighing the pros and cons, it is with a heavy heart that we let the community know that we will not be opening the Rotary-4-H Funnel Cake booth at the Coffee County Fair. We know many people will be disappointed. Just know and understand it was a difficult decision. We are hopeful that in a few months, things will be more stable and closer to normal. Perhaps we can fry up some funnel cakes at a spring event! The days of the Funnel Cake Booth or not over-just on a break.
