How to Show Support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
Local January 9, 2020 Daniel Prince
Every year on January 9th, across the entire nation citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day History
This appreciation day was created by several organizations in 2015 in efforts to thank officers across the country for all the daily sacrifices they make for their communities. These organizations supporting the observance of this day include:
- Concerns of Police Survivors
- FBI National Academy Associates
- Fraternal Order of Police
- International Association of Chief of Police
- Officer Down Memorial Page
- Law Enforcement United
- National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund
- International Conference of Police Chaplains
- National Troopers Coalition
Law enforcement officers of every rank have chosen a profession that is demanding and at times quite dangerous. These jobs can take officers away from their families for long hours, and they often don’t know what each day has in store for them. It is a high risk job, but officers are sometimes the only paid emergency resource a community has. They often work in conjunction with other local, state, and federal organizations to make communities safer.
On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we have an opportunity as citizens to thank them for their hard work, and offer our respect for their service.
