Lightning struck yesterday, March 11th, damaging the Manchester Courthouse on the city square.
Manchester Fire and Rescue received the call from a citizen who witnessed the damage, and responded to check it out. “Upon arrival, the steeple on top had been struck by lighting, splintering one of the middle posts facing the north side of the square,” states Chief George Chambers of the Manchester Fire Department.
Coffee County Sheriffs personnel, Manchester Police Department, and other Coffee County officials were on the scene to survey the damage. The area was checked for water leaks, electrical issues, and interior damage. Chambers says “Everything checked out fine. Most of the damage is on the outside of the facility. It’s possible that a vehicle parked in the parking area on that side of the square received minor damage also.”
The area was cleared and all personnel returned to service.
