Motlow State Community College has been the recipient of two of three awards that are annually issued by Community Colleges of Appalachia. CCA is an association of almost 100 colleges in 13 Appalachian states from New York to Mississippi.

Motlow State Community College received the 2020 Workforce Development Award for its Advanced Robotics Training Center, a state-of-the-art facility that opened in McMinnville in April of 2019. The training center provides training in robotic, automation and advanced manufacturing systems.

The Advanced Robotics Training Center is considered a “development hub” that allows students to earn an Associate degree in mechatronics with a concentration in robotics. The program also enables non-credit students to earn industry-recognized certificates in just four days.

Motlow’s Advanced Robotics Training Center is a sizable resource for the region, and has led to new career opportunities for students and “training needed for existing and future advanced manufacturing industries.”

Motlow State President Michael Torrence and Executive Director of Advanced Robotics, Larry Flat accepted the award on behalf of MSCC in a virtual ceremony, held in place of the 28th annual conference that was cancelled due to COVID-19.
