Breaking: Manchester Mayor Lonnie Norman has Died.

Tragic news comes this morning with the passing of longtime Mayor of the City of Manchester, Lonnie Norman. Norman was diagnosed with COVID-19 on October 1st and then subsequently hospitalized.
The City of Manchester officials state, “With a deep sense of sadness and loss, we announce the passing of Mayor Lonnie Norman after being hospitalized for COVID-19 on October 1, 2020. Mayor Norman passed away in the early hours of Monday, October 12, 2020, after a valiant fight against COVID-19.”
In the event of his passing, according to the City of Manchester’s Charter, “The Board of Mayor and Aldermen at the first regular meeting in September following each regular city election shall elect a
member of the Board to the office of Vice-mayor who shall serve as Mayor.
when the Mayor is absent or unable to discharge the duties of the Mayor’s
office, but, in case of a vacancy in the office of Mayor, the Board of Mayor
and Aldermen shall fill the vacancy with the Vice-mayor or from the
remaining members of the Board until the next regular election, at which
time someone will be elected for the balance of the term, if any, or for a
new term.
(b) In the absence of the Mayor and Vice-mayor the Board of
Mayor and Aldermen shall designate one of its number to preside at
meetings, and who shall retain all of the voting rights of an Alderman.
The Vice-mayor or Alderman filling the vacancy shall receive the Mayor’s
salary in lieu of their Alderman salary for the duration of the vacancy.” Currently, vice mayor Marilyn Howard is performing Mayor Norman’s duties.
