In response to the precautionary measures being taken amid COVID-19, Mayor Gary Cordell has signed a declaration of emergency, which authorizes the county to waive various procedures or formalities otherwise legally required.
The declaration from Cordell states, “It is further ordered, that due to the existence of this situation, the Coffee County Emergency Operations Plan and all appendixes be placed into effect coordinate and facilitate an effective response to and recovery from this emergency/disaster situation.”
All procedures and formalities otherwise required under Coffee County Resolutions or Tennessee Law pertaining to the following are hereby waived:
- Performance of public work, taking whatever action is necessary to ensure health, safety, and welfare of the community
- Entering into contracts
- Incurring obligations
- Employment of temporary or permanent workers
- Utilization of volunteer workers
- Rental of Equipment
- Acquisition and distribution, with or without compensation, of supplies, materials, and facilities
- Appropriation of public funds
The proclamation of this state of emergency issued by the Mayor ” may entitle the county to cost reimbursement.”
