The Tennessee Department of Health reports a total of 507 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Coffee County as of August 7th, 2020. 285 cases are known to be currently active. There are a reported 219 recoveries, and 3 COVID-19 related deaths, as reported by the state.
285 active cases puts the active case rate greater than 0.5%, which is the threshold for allowing in person classes for Coffee County, Manchester, and Tullahoma City Schools. Currently, schools in Coffee County such as Coffee County Middle School and North Coffee Elementary have been closed due to “and abundance of caution” after it was reported there was a confirmed case within the school system. As of 2:00 p.m. today, there is no official word from school systems yet as to any changes of schedule. As COVID-19 is an evolving situation, Coffee County News will update the community on any changes within the school districts in Coffee County.
It has been reported today that several cases were confirmed within the Tullahoma City School and Manchester City School systems. School officials from both districts have stated that they are working with the school health liaison to contact trace and quarantine necessary individuals. No word has been given as to whether the positive individuals were students or staff, due to “health privacy reasons,” but officials state that parents will be notified as necessary.
