Doris Bard, of Memphis, passed away on Friday, December 27th, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Tullahoma at the age of 94. She will be interred in Memphis at the Temple Israel Cemetery, 1680 Hernando Road, Memphis, TN 38106 on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 at 2:00pm. Doris was born in Breslau, Poland on March 16th, 1925. She immigrated to the United States in 1949 after World War II and eventually settled in Memphis. She was a holocaust survivor and was a member of the Temple Israel Synagogue for 65 years. Doris was the only child of George and Else Bansch Dixon who are both deceased. Along with Doris, they too immigrated to the United States after World War II. She was married to Henry Bard, whom she met in a displaced persons camp in Europe after the war. Doris leaves behind two children, Ralph Bard of Tullahoma who is married to Shirley Anne Bard, and Joyce Jones of Memphis who is married to Howard W. Jones. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Kimberley Hatler, Lauire McClain, both of Memphis, Rae Anne Smith of Sewanee, and Amy Rowe of Tullahoma; and nine great-grandchildren, Luke and Amelia Hatler, Tim and Liam McClain, Sarah and Michael Seay, and Katie, Elizabeth and John Rowe. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Doris’ memory be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38501-9959 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4825 Trousdale Drive, Suite 220, Nashville, Tennessee 37220.
