“During the last few months here at the Storehouse Food Pantry, we have seen the community of Manchester come together for the cause. In Manchester we have families that struggle every week to buy groceries. When the pandemic hit, we saw the struggle because of the scarcity of food in our area. The Pantry, with the help of many businesses donating monetary, food staples, and time, made sure that the Pantry would stay open during the time of difficulty.
We would like to thank our Mayors for their support. Mayor Norman helped make sure that our elderly citizens did not have to get during this time, and delivery services were made available. Mayor Cordell, we thank you for your communication with us to make sure our needs were being met. Aldermen decisions made during this time are difficult, but we have often heard the statement, ‘We will get through this together.’ It seems we are holding our own here at the Pantry, with all the help we have received. The Pantry could never repay all the things that the community has done to keep the Pantry open. The generosity of this city has overcome the difficult times by coming together to make things happen for the people in our city.
During the months of March-June 20th, we have served 2,270 families, 7,429 people, with approximately 50,000 pounds of food, given in free food boxes. Volunteers have been diligently serving to make this possible with over 5,000 hours of service.
I would like to commend the founder of the pantry of her faithful commitment to the Pantry and to the vision given by God, “to feed the hungry.” Hats off to Staria Davison, which I often call her “Resource Queen.”
A donation-based pantry, God has shown himself to us, and has proven we are His hands and feet. We listen and do our best to obey to help alleviate the hunger problem in Manchester and surrounding areas.”
