Every year, Coffee County Central High School dedicates a night to showcase its fine arts departments by hosting an event in which the fine arts students from art, theatre, band, digital arts, and choir get to put their hard work on display.

Art teacher, Mary Vacek says they have no plans of stopping Fine Arts Night any time soon. “John, Erica, and I all started here at the same time, this is our sixth year together in this building, so we have kind of gotten to see everything grow together, it’s pretty cool.” Vacek says she wishes to expand the event as much as possible. This year included Susan Baldwin’s digital art and design class, something that hasn’t been shown off before at the event. Mary Vacek even likes the idea of displaying the “culinary arts” in the future. “Art with food, how neat would that be?”

Students from the art department displayed works of art around the entire room for visitors to peruse throughout the event.

This year the evening opened with a musical number from the upcoming play “Peter Pan” in March, and other theatre students performed several monologues, and musical story telling numbers in which the student told a very entertaining story using only actions and expressions.

Jonathan Higdon, head of the theatre department and MC of the evening says “This is just a really unique night. We get to showcase a lot of kids who don’t normally get that kind of spotlight.”

This year the Westwood Middle School choir performed as a group singing “The Best Day of My Life.” After performing their number, they also performed a choreographed number of “Can’t Stop the Feeling” with the CCCHS choir. Choir teacher, Erica Petersen says even though the majority of her students have been sick lately, they all pushed through and she was so proud of them.

During intermission, chorus student began a flash mob in the middle of the crowd to the tune of “Don’t Stop Believing.” “The event has grown so much, even in attendance. It’s a great outreach program for middle school students” says 2017 alumni Lizz Kingerly.

Students from band performed several numbers throughout the night, both solo and ensemble, including a solo flute and french horn performance, a guitar ensemble of “Here Comes the Sun”, and a clarinet rendition of the theme song from Tetris.
