Members of the Beechgrove community and other Coffee County citizens gathered together at the County Planning Commission meeting on September 22nd to speak against Q-1 zoning in Coffee County. Founder of the “Beechgrove Community Group” Jinan Robison states about yesterday’s meeting, “Advocates and community members stood their ground to protect Beechgrove and Coffee County from implementing a Q1 zoning.” You can read Jinan’s letter to the community on Q-1 Rezoning here.

The county was set to discuss a zoning change at the request of Hawkins Asphalt Company to allow the establishment of a rock quarry in the county.

At yesterday’s meeting, the planning commission voted against zoning resolution in a vote of 4-3, which means establishing a rock quarry in Coffee County would not be approved. The final commission may vote again on the issue, which would take place in November.
