Manchester City Mayor Lonnie Norman, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on October 1st. According to officials, Norman has been hospitalized due to the virus. City officials wished him well in Tuesday’s board meeting.

Vice Mayor Marilyn Howard has been in communication with city staff and officials to both update the community on Norman’s condition, and to ensure city operations are running well in his absence.

In a release to media, the city states, “Vice Mayor Marilyn Howard has been in constant communication with the city staff and officials to ensure the seamless operation of our city. The city implemented strict measures months ago to mitigate the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, like other cities and businesses, we have had employees impacted by the virus.”

According to a letter written by Mayor Norman that Vice Mayor Howard read at Tuesday’s board meeting, Norman expresses “appreciation for all the calls and prayers regarding his health.” The letter also stated that “doctors are happy with his recovery and hope to kick him out soon.” Norman has asked for “continued prayers, and he prays that he will be sitting in his seat on Nov. 3 for the next board meeting”.
