A new year is upon us, and that means struggling to write the date on our documents for the next month. Change is hard, but here’s why it may be a bit more of a hassle this year.

Writing the date is something most of us do every single day. There are two ways someone may abbreviate the date. One method being “01/02/2020”, while others shorten it further by using “01/02/20”.

As we begin the new decade with “20” its suggested that, this year, you write out the entire 4-digit year. This eliminates the possibility of someone manipulating the date by adding extra numbers on the end, such as 18 or 19, making documents look as though they have been dated for previous years. This is extremely important when dealing with legal documents, any paperwork you may fill out for the new year, and even your checkbook.

Protect yourself this year, don’t abbreviate 2020! This is prudent information when dealing with your financial or legal safety. Happy New Year!
